Today we stay close to home to discover or rather rediscover the charm of Slovenian woods, especially the Tarnova Forest and the Loqua area (Lokve in Slovenian). Mount Poldanovec is a worthy representative with its singular silhouette, and the impressive precipice that overlooks the Tribussa valley.
We leave the cars in the large car park in the center of Loqua and along a paved road that soon becomes a cart track we enter a forest of a thousand different shades of green. After about an hour you reach a crossroads with a large board showing the route of our ring. You can do it both ways. You opt for the hourly one. Soon it starts to climb with a steep but not worrying slope. We approach the edge of a deep overhang that overlooks the Tribussa valley. A little attention but no real problem. We soon reach the top from where the view sweeps over the whole valley below and the chain of distant mountains still all covered with snow. The summit is narrow, we close ranks to get everyone in the summit photo. We close the ring going down on the other side and we reach the starting point. Deep sinkholes with still snow at the bottom give a very particular note to the area.
Today's excursion is an opportunity for us to remember the hundredth anniversary of the death of Gino Paternolli from Gorizia, his story and the passion for the mountains that led him to lose his life right in the Tribussa valley.
