Itinerary description
Revisited "Anello del Cimone" hike that will take you in a wonderful loop around and atop the Mt Cimone.
Start at Parcheggio lago della Ninfa, there are plenty of free spots. From here, head towards the lake itself, and turn left starting the ascent. You'll reach one of the slopes of Passo del Lupo, turn right and after few hundreds meter you'll reach the Passo.
From here, head to the Magic Carpet (tappeto) and descent the route until you reach a plain area where two ski lift. Continue briefly ahead and turn right after a brief uphill. Follow the route until you reach Le Polle.
Now, head for the ski slopes in the disatance: you'll climb both ski slopes and shortcuts in the forest. The route is well labeled and, mostly, there's only one path. You'll eventually reach Pian Cavallaro.
As soon as you enter a wide road (jeeps allowed here) turn right, and follow the route keeping the left. Turn left as soon as you reach a point where the route goes down. That hike will take you to the top of Mt. Cimone.
After a rest atop the Mt Cimone, head towards Mt Cimoncino, and keep right and be happy, from here the journey is mostly downhill :). Follow the route until you reach the indication for GEA route, at Mt la Piazza. Here, turn left and be prepared for a bumpy hike, few passages are difficult and vertical.
You'll eventually reach a fork where at your right you'll see a small lake (Lake il terzo). Head to it following the route, and enjoy a nice downhill route in a forest that each few hundreds of meter changes on vegetation. You can't miss the route, you'll reach the Il Cimoncino where a ski lift starts.
Turn left following briefly the slopes, and promptly turn right. From here follow the route and turn right again before entering a forest. This route will take you directly to Lago della Ninfa, where your journey ends. Usually, bars and restaurants here are open (even on late Sept.) so be sure to enjoy some local meal and drink :)

I hiked this trail in August with a friend and even though it's not my first time on Mt Cimone I really appreciated the trail proposed for its variety and for the scenery. It's really steep and long so come prepared. There's a fountain atop Mt Cimone, I would add this piece of information.
The whole day was magic, thanks for this track.
