Itinerary description
A few notes for this route first : The recording starts from the site of "Livadakia" along the trail from Anavryti Vlg. (1.5 hour hike if one starts from the village or 1/2 hour if you drive down the road to Lakomata and start where it crosses the trail). This was meant to be a crossing of the N. ridgeline to "Profitis Ilias" summit but had to back off due to a leaking boot and frozen feet. It's usefull as it shows a retreat point right before the pass to "Athanati Rachi" but there is also a retreat possible after "Sidirokastro" before that.
To get back to the beginning, after "Livadakia" you come to a point where 3 trails meet (there is a sign) and follow the trail up to the right towards "Tsarkos". (If you continue straight you can get to the ridgleline well after "Spanakaki" at a saddle called "Portes", it can save an hour or so). The trail continues until the "Tsarkos Botanical Station" once an emergency refuge, now lying in ruins. From there it's easy to get to the ridgeline which is a series of peaks with relatively small prominence. Most significant are "Spanakaki", "Marmarokastro", "Sidirokastro" and "Athanati Rachi", a few have no name at all. To get to the summit you have to cross "Athanati Rachi". There is a short exposed section that requires a little bit of climbing (grade II actually but in winter can be snow covered or icy). From there on one gets down to the trail from EOS Spartis refuge and get to the summit from the standard north arete route.
