Long description:
Embark on a fun and unforgettable journey through Almada, starting right next to the Cacilhas tourist office at Casa René, Lisbon's hidden gem. This path is perfect for anyone who loves to walk or jog while exploring new places.
-> You can also start at the Cacilhas ferry station if you come from Lisbon. But then, at the end, certainly walk towards the Cacilhas tourist office and Casa René to discover all the delicious authentic grill, seafood, and petisco restaurants in this short pedestrian street!
A first highlight is the bright red Farol in Cacilhas, offering stunning views over the river and city. As you move along, you’ll pass by the marine heritage with the frigate, submarine, and the abandoned Lisnave shipyard with the iconic majestic red crane.
Next up, you'll discover the Mercado da Romeira. It's a lively market where you can grab a bite to eat or a refreshing drink. This spot is great for a quick stop to enjoy some local tastes and to take a little break. Around the mercado, the neighborhood is full of abandoned factories and warehouses, now decorated with beautiful street art.
After that, the journey takes you to Parque da Paz. This large, green park is a peaceful spot where you can relax and enjoy nature right in the middle of the city. It’s a beautiful place to take a deep breath and enjoy the calmness.
Another highlight of this tour is the Cristo Rei monument. This huge statue is not just impressive from afar but also up close. It gives you fantastic views over Lisbon, the river, and the famous red bridge.
The last part of your walk or jog takes you along the river. This urban path, Ginjal, has more wonderful views of Lisbon, the river, and Belém. The abandoned miradouro and 'Quinta de Arealva' and old conserves warehouses are also full of beautiful street art. This unique path is extra beautiful when the sun sets. A good spot to enjoy this is the 'Jardim da Cacilhas' park beside the river.
You’ll finish your journey back where you started, having seen so many cool and beautiful things in Almada. This walk or jog isn’t just about the places you see; but also shows the rich heritage and the huge potential of this area. Whether you're taking a leisurely walk or going for a jog, you’re sure to enjoy this tour.
