Itinerary description

The trek began with a visit to the small Byzantine church of the Assumption with an adjoining monastery built on a small island in the lagoon reachable by a long pier. After a short distance by bus we entered the park reaching a beautiful beach full of campers (in Albania camping is free). From the license plates almost all of them are from Northern Europe but seeing the rubbish sown around they seem to have immediately adapted to local customs...
From the beach we entered a pine forest planted at the time of the "glorious regime" - as the local guide ironically defines it - to counteract erosion and when we reached the edge of the lagoon we took the dirt road that runs straight - and without a trace of shade - on the embankment between the lagoon and the salt pans
