Alava1000+ 1088 m Marabileta

Según mendikat.net, en Álava existen casi 250 montes de mil metros o más. Éste es el Marabileta, de 1088 metros

Descripción del monte (extraído de www.mendikat.net):

Cumbre de los Montes de Iturrieta cercana a Santa Elena (1109 m), a la altura del pueblo de Gereñu (681 m). Su posición es inconfundible por la antena que la domina
Al Oeste de la cima quedan los collados de Santa Lucia (832 m), Gereñu (873 m) y Puerto Blanco (1032 m). Al Este queda una cumbre ligeramente más baja y cubierta totalmente por el hayedo que se denomina Zorrikobaso (1085 m). Entre ambas se encuentra un terreno cultivado a casi 1.100 metros de altitud, constituyendo, de este modo, el labrantío más elevado de la provincia
Más al Norte asoma la rocosa punta de Larrintxu (1044 m), con una forma de proa de barco e inmejorable atalaya de la Llanada Alavesa. Siguiendo la cresta hacia levante quedaría el Puerto de Luzkando (1030 m), que separa este conjunto de cumbres del Santa Elena (1109 m), abriéndose al Sur un valle que se dirige hacia el Barranco de Igoroin

Mi ascensión

Ruta muy sencilla pero no por ello poco entretenida. Ninguna complicación en cuanto a tipo de pista, orientación o pendiente. La única pega es que la cima del monte Marabileta está arruinada por la instalación de una antena

El coche se deja en el pueblo de Gereñu, junto a la bolera, en la plaza de la fuente. Tras unos pocos centenares de metros por pista de grava llegamos a la linde del hayedo. Aquí nos cruzamos con la pista GR-25, que va de Alangua a Adana. No hay que tomar esa pista sino que hay que seguir por el camino de en medio, por una pista ancha que no es la GR-25

Seguimos ascendiendo tranquilamente, tomando dos desvíos a la izquierda (ver WPTs). En el WPT “Ligeramente a la derecha // Slightly to the right”, nuestra senda se bloquea con matojos y arbustos; hay que seguir por la derecha. Hay un mojón de piedras que lo señala debidamente. Continuamos hasta puerto Blanco, donde giramos casi 180 grados, hacia el Sureste. La horrible antena que hay en la misma cima del Marabileta está a pocos metros

La cima no tiene mucho interés, salvo las vistas sobre Gereñu. Vitoria se puede ver a lo lejos, si el día está despejado. Yo no encontré ningún hito cimero ni ningún buzón. Aquí está el que posiblemente es el campo de cultivo más elevado de toda la provincia





Iniciamos el descenso por pista de grava, que abandonamos a los 180 metros por la izquierda para meternos en el bosque que nos devuelve al coche. En el descenso pasamos junto al Zorrikobazo (1083 m), el Larrintxo (1056 m) y el Basasakan (1046 m). La suave bajada continúa sin ningún problema hasta Gereñu, a través del hayedo

En resumen, es una ruta muy sencilla y entretenida. Lástima que la cima esté echada a perder por la antena

According to mendikat.net, there are almost 250 mountains of 1,000 meters or more in Alava. This is Marabileta, 1088 meters high

Summit of the Iturrieta Mountains near Santa Elena (1109 m), close to the village of Gereñu (681 m). Its position is unmistakable because of the antenna that dominates it

To the west of the summit are the passes of Santa Lucia (832 m), Gereñu (873 m) and Puerto Blanco (1032 m). To the east there is a slightly lower summit, completely covered by the beech forest called Zorrikobaso (1085 m). Between the two is a cultivated land at an altitude of almost 1,100 meters, making it the highest farmland in the province

Further north is the rocky point of Larrintxu (1044 m), shaped like the prow of a ship and an unbeatable vantage point overlooking the Llanada Alavesa. Following the ridge to the east would be the Puerto de Luzkando (1030 m), which separates this set of peaks of Santa Elena (1109 m), opening to the south a valley that leads to the Barranco de Igoroin

My ascent

Very simple route but not for that reason not less entertaining. No complications in terms of type of track, orientation or slope. The only downside is that the top of Mount Marabileta is ruined by the installation of an antenna

The car is left in the village of Gereñu, next to the bowling alley, in the fountain square. After a few hundred meters on a gravel track we reach the edge of the beech forest. Here we cross the GR-25 trail, which goes from Alangua to Adana. We do not have to take this trail, but continue on the track in the middle, on a wide path that is not the GR-25

We continue ascending quietly, taking two detours to the left (see WPTs). In the WPT "Slightly to the right", our path is blocked by bushes and shrubs; we must continue to the right. There is a stone milestone that indicates it properly. We continue to Puerto Blanco, where we turn almost 180 degrees to the southeast. The horrible antenna on the summit of Marabileta is just a few meters away

The summit is of little interest, except for the views over Gereñu. Vitoria can be seen in the distance, if the day is clear. I did not find any summit landmarks or letterboxes. Here is what is possibly the highest crop field in the entire province





We start the descent by gravel track, which we leave after 180 meters to the left to get into the forest that returns us to the car. On the descent we pass Zorrikobazo (1083 m), Larrintxo (1056 m) and Basasakan (1046 m). The gentle descent continues without any problem until Gereñu, through the beech forest

In short, it is a very simple and entertaining route. A pity that the summit is spoiled by the antenna
