Nice hike to the beginning of Denali National Park accessible by private car. The Savage Rivier car park is quickly full, come in the morning before 10am.
The hike begins at the parking lot east of Savage Rivier. The path climbs zigzag up to a first jump. Then long zigzag lead on a small ridge. Nice view of the Denali. Then the path goes up in a kind of circus to the highest point. You can see animals, reindeer and elk, ground squirrels are not shy. At the descent stop on the first ridge, many ground squirrels and nice view. Finally we find the vegetation and the trees. Watch out for bears in this vegetation. When you arrive at Savage Campground, it is recommended to take the bus back to the Savage River car park.
