Itinerary description
Vulkan ( Վուլկան լեռ ) is one of the peaks of the Pambak range ( Փամբակի լեռնաշղթա ), in Armenia.
Though it's hard to find a mountain with this name in maps, it's quite a famous summit in the surrounding area. The highest peak of that area is another mount - Gomasar 2843 m ( Գոմասար) , but Vulkan is the one, where hikers go more often.
Here some information about the trail:
--- This trail starts from Fioletovo village ( Ֆիոլետովո ) it's quite challenging hike for 1 day.
--- Fioletovo village is a very common tourist destination in Armenia , as people who live here are not Armenians, they are Russian "old believers" who came here in the 18th century.
--- First part of the trail you follow 4 x 4 vehicle traces, then you join a tiny path on the right side.
--- While hiking Vulkan from Fioletovo you have to take into consideration that it's very important not to lose a path in the beginning part, which leads you to about 2500 m, as there is a lush forest where you can't find any other routes.
--- The path from Fioletovo can be very confusing in some periods of the year and be ready for bush bashing in some parts.
--- The season for Vulkan starts from the end of May till the end of November (the first snow).
--- If you want to see greenery, the best months are June and July.
--- Here it's recorded only one-way of the trail, so the length of the whole trail is 24 km.
--- There is also another trail of Vulkan which leads you to summit from Meghadzor village (Մեղրաձոր ), these two directions are really different, the way from Meghradzor is about landscape views and huge ranges, the way from Fioletovo ( Ֆիոլետովո ) is about lush forests and greenery.
So if you don't have a car and don't need to go back I'd suggest downloading the trail " Vulkan mountain - Classic trail" and hiking both trails.
