Itinerary description
Akkar end of year weekend, Day 1/3 (29/12/23)
This is the first day of a long weekend with 33 North (Gilbert Moukheiber 03454996) in collaboration with two amazing local guides from Qobayat (Zeina) and Andqet (Khalil). I highly recommend you contact Gilbert to get more info about these hikes or to get the contacts of trusted local guides in the area. These beautiful hikes are close to the lebanese-syrian north borders and it's highly advisable to hike with guides from the region. Akkar is a true heaven for hikers. Its only problem is being relatively far from Beirut. This is why it's recommended to spend at least 2 days there to get the best of your trip.
The first hike started from Akroum village. Many lebanese army checkpoints are on your way to Akroum. Make sure that you have your national identity card. We started near "Makhfar el darak" and went up to our first stop: El Hosseyn citadel. We then continued our way to the top of the hill before starting our descent towards El Sabeh Valley. Instead of continuing our way directly down to the valley, we followed a footpath under the cliff leading to "El Nir cave" where we had our lunch. The way down to the valley is steep and may not easy for beginners, and this is why i preferred to rate this hike as difficult, knowing that it's not a big deal for regular hikers. Once you reach the amazing Sabeh valley, the walk here is pleasant following a clear footpath back to the village.
