Itinerary description
First hike of 2021. Afternoon walk from Aintoura el Metn to Tarchich. I parked at the last house in the village and started the walk down to the river. The first 2 km till the water reservoir are on asphalt road. If you want to avoid this part (which is not really bad), continue with your car and park just before the water reservoir (check waypoint), where a dirt road leads to the river. Sceneries are beautiful all around. The water reservoir was built after discovering "Qattine Azar" sinkhole in 1996 and the underground river that continues to Fouar Antelias. This sinkhole is found higher and can be reached from Majdel Tarchich. The asphalt road was built for this reason (it was before a dirt road for horses and donkeys). The old stone bridge is charming and the area around it is the most beautiful part of this hike. After a second river crossing (dry riverbed on Jan 1st 2021), a steady ascent on rocky trail will lead you to Tarchich village. I didn't continue further because i was short on time. Do not forget to visit the cave of Saint Nohra (waypoint) where you will find Christmas decorations. At the end of my walk, i discussed with an old woman from Aintoura. She gave me valuable information about the history of the region. The trail to the river was used in the past for merchandise transportation on mules and donkeys in the Ottomans era.

Beautiful waterfall and sandy beach :)
This should become more beautiful after heavy rains and in early spring

You should try the upper trail that leads to qattine azar cave & waterfall (best time during march & april)
Thank you for the review J.J.H. :) The upper trail is posted (trail fouwar dara- Qattine azar) but as you said it's recommended in spring.
