Itinerary description
I was wondering why I haven't heard about this gorge earlier by lots of people, although I live in the area and hike a lot here for more than a decade, now I found out why.
The trail is marked well with yellow/blue paint and starts with a smooth ascend offering terrific views to Tsivi and Selena mountains. After an hour I reach Adrianos, where even the 2 humongous guardian dogs I had to pass seemed sleepy, charming and welcoming. What a wonderful little village to fall in love with at first sight!
This is the gorge entrance, big signs here for the caves, but unfortunately I missed them, did not note any mark for the accesses. I guess I was just too occupied watching every single one of my steps in the stony riverbed, same time dazzled and amazed by the fabulous views of the gorge and the steep, rocky walls, rock tops pointing heavenward, horizontal vegetation up there, and last but not least touched by the heartrending bleating of a baby sheep, imagining, what that one must just go through...
This is not the tour for busloads of people, actually I did not meet anyone all the way and good I informed a friend earlier about my planned route. I mark it difficult only for one large rock in the middle of the gorge which can only be passed by rope / rappel, but only some 5 meters drop, no way around spotted. Apparently eagles nesting there in the walls, indeed they had an eye on me, which added kind of a spooky touch to this section.
Loved it, will go back soon to find the caves!
