near Ágios Konstantínos, Crete (Greece)
Listed this as as a difficult walk as although not particularly long, it does involve stamina and technical difficulties along with virtually no shade to escape the heat from the sun.
The walk starts with a long uphill ascent moving onto a rough way trail. You need to keep an eye out for the yellow and blue markers and note if they have an arrow showing direction to take.
The way path will eventually take you above the small village of Adrianos where you will have to negotiate yourself down a steep descent.
When you hit the village head left and follow the signs to the Gorge.
Again keep vigilant for the trail markers as they show you the way to go so that you don't end up having to drop down high heights to continue the trail.
There is little shade and the pebbles are loose and hard going to walk on.
There are two sections where you need to descent using a rope, one being over 5 meters high.
A couple of gates to pass through, as I mentioned before there is little relief from the heat of the sun and a few of the pathways are very narrow requiring a couple of detours to the sides of the gorge as opposed to carrying straight down the middle.
The signage is there to help but remain vigilant.
It is a physical demanding walk and not for the unfit. Bring plenty of water as there is nowhere to top up.
Not much space to park vehicles down this lane, so left them under the trees.
Walk is nicely signposted on a Yellow and Blue sign
The same colours that are used to mark the route
Follow the concrete pathway and keep left on the first branch off pathway

Take the right pathway
Keep to the right shingle pathway and keep going up
The path is a long uphill meandering route rising 139 meters before intercepting the off trail pathway

Typical signage to guide you
Typical blue and yellow marker to follow, some will have arrows to show which direction to follow, others just a signage to state you are on the right path.
These will be on trees, rocks and boulders throughout the walk
Keep to this pathway to the left of the tree
From here the track takes you up 124 meters of wild path to the top of the hill
Off terrain from here
The pathway is fairly well trodden but keep a lookout for the signage to stay on track
Keep going up passing the markers on the earth pathway
a few areas of small trees and foliage to pass through

There is no shade and the markers can be a little hard to spot, but generally head up

Village, nearly there
When you get to the bottom, keep right and pass between the white house into the main village road, turn left
Large sign on tree to point your way
Follow the pathway out of the village
A rock with the blue and yellow sign is easy to miss, but it is on the left pathway and the correct path to take
Photo
Fence, negotiate around it to the right
When you get to the fence you bypass it to the right, the signage is there.
follow it for a short distance and it will drop you down to the pebbled floor of the gorge
From here you are in the gorge
The pebble underfoot is not a comfortable walk many being loose and unstable
The heat that is reflected from the pebbles and rocks is also uncomfortable with virtually no shade.
Keep vigilant for the markers as it shows the easiest route to take, bypassing many high ledge drops
Photo
Stunning views in the gorge
Trail takes you through many rock that you have to jump across, slide down and pass through

opening you have to negotiate, best doing it backwards and dropping down

First of two rope drops
Just a small drop here with a rope to help you get down
Keep to the right when you come down as there is a large opening to the left at the bottom and you could easily miss your footing and bang your legs
Photo
Pathway goes left there through boulders
We stopped for lunch here.
One of the few places that had shade in the whole gorge.
The walk continues through the boulders.
Keep a vigilant lookout for the signs and follow them otherwise you may find that if you miss them you may come to a difficult high drop or it become inaccessible
If you do, just double back until you see the sign you missed.
They can be difficult to spot
Photo
Second rope descent
This drop is roughly 5 meters, just abseil with your legs pushing against the rocks.
A few areas where you have to go up and around to continue the route

Looking back on pathway
Looking back on a bit of the pathway where we had to keep to the left of the gorge and follow a narrow path before dropping back down again on to the gorge floor

Getting near the end, the sides of the gorge not so high now
Typical rocks to pass through

Continue up on the rockface to the left
The path Continues up on the rock face to the left of the gorge
Follow path through trees and out of the gorge
Door
Gate to pass through
Gate opens to the right of the pebble road coming through
Through the gate and go left up the uphill concrete pathway.
At this point a hard grind when your tired
Continue until you intersect the main road
Go left back to the parked cars approx 800 meters

Hiya, Amazingly Teresa & I attempted Adrianos Gorge last week, but lost our way and had to turn back 😣 😊.

Magnifique randonnée, peut être la plus belle de Crete, mais aussi une des plus difficile. Fléchage de grande qualité. A faire absolument.
