Itinerary description
From the car park at Val Malga, I set off at 5am to head up the Adamello. After 1 1/2 hours I reached the Refugio Serafino Gnutti which is 900m up - most people stay here and start the day from here (I don't blame them). Here I met Marco who had a similar itinerary and apparent ability to me, the difference being that he knew the way. So we made a great team and headed up. It's a big hike, with a chained section (easy enough to not bother with your via ferrata kit). This take you to the glacier which is fantastic, spilling over like a melting ice cream. Follow the route of others across the glacier towards the rocky summit area - this area of the glacier seems safe with no obvious crevasses. Then we pushed on to the top which was slow going by this time.
After half an hour enjoying the fantastic views, we reversed the whole route and made our way back down a very long way to the starting point for a beer.
This is a very long day, especially doing it from the very bottom to top, and so if you are in any doubt maybe stay at the Gnutti hut to make the start easier.
