Itinerary description
Winter edition.
The trail is almost without traffic but in the wintertime is still used. The first half of the route goes along the Abula River with amazing landscape and ends at the crossroads of Abula and Gauja rivers. Short metal spikes under the boots are recommended for uphills and downhills. The second half of the trail goes through multiple forests and later through the countryside.
Side note: at one point of the second half the original trail the route takes trough a part where there used to be the forest but currently is cut down. If you do have waterproof boots and dare to cross that part with snow up till the knees go for it (we did it as there was someone before who was brave enough to do so and we just followed the footsteps). Otherwise, take a detour and later join the original route.
