Itinerary description
The hike is in Craig and Roanoke County west of Salem, VA. After crossing Trout Creek, the A.T. ascends steeply through a fire recovery area, passing by the trail to the Pickle Branch Shelter at 1.0 mile. The A.T. then continues ascent to the ridge, following the crescent-shaped top of Cove Mountain to the blue blazed trail to Dragon’s Tooth on right. There are great views and rock-scrambling opportunities on Dragon’s Tooth - a highly recommended side trail. The A.T. descends over a rock scramble to a campsite at Lost Spectacles Gap, where a blue-blazed trail on left leads down to the Dragon’s Tooth parking lot.
