Itinerary description
Visit Fjolla Lake and Dorez Castle. An easy hike, though routefinding can be difficult (that's why we give it a moderate)! From the lake near Peze e madhe, walk along an artifical lake, pass a quarry (which is eating into the mountainside), climb to the village of Dorez and the name-like castle (you only see it when you know it is there). We went there on an afternoon following a day of rain, and the views were simply marvelous - to Dajti, to Veles (near Lezha), even to Rumoja (in Montenegro), to the coast and everywhere. Look out for petrified seashells when climbing up.
We recommend to do the hike anti-clockwise.
The road to Peze has been under construction. Once done, Peze is a nice place for having a drink and a meal after the hike.

Hi Palmtree, last weekend we enjoyed the saturday visiting the village of Dorez, the ruins of the castle as well as trying to find out the way down to the lake...
The road to Peze is under constructions, so we found in better conditions for the car the trail up to the lake.
On the west we could see still a lot of snow.
Thank u for posting so many great ideas.
We also happened to pass by in Peze last Sunday, and indeed the road has become very bad - I thinkmainly because they are taking gravel fromt he quarry to the new Elbasan road.....But once this is over, I think the area will again be great for more weekend or afternoon explorations!
A newer image of google earth view of the south of Tirana has been published and makes trail finding, viewing and making an easier task. It's a pleasure to look at these high resolution pics.
True dat. We'll be looking for more to do in this area, especially in the cold season when days are short.

Everything was as described by Palm tree. The view was splendid, and the hike not very difficult. Although when returning there was no trail at all at the beginning. You just have to come down from one rock to another. When we finally found the path everything was more easy.
If you start it early in the morning you have also time to go visit Peza.
Beautiful route, but the track is tricky since the mine has expanded and you have to find your own way. At the summit we saw a baby turtle. Great day.
