Ninth stage of the Tour of the Annapurnas.
The key to the success of this queen stage of trekking is to be well acclimatized and go up to Thorun-La without haste.
We left Thorun Pedi at around 6 in the morning. Most of the people leave much earlier, but I see it unnecessary because in 3 and a half or 4 hours you are up walking very slowly (which is the key to this stage on the way up) and you have enough time to even make an extra stop before that the wind picks up at the top of the port or a storm forms. The descent becomes quite monotonous and long but logically it spreads much more than the climb.
Regarding the matter of the necessary material for the stage, it is essential to have good warm material (a good jacket) and some decent boots (I took some old trekking women that were enough). The issue of whether to wear crampons, gaiters and others, I have to say that in our case we did not wear crampons but we saw many people who did wear them (both the authentic ones and especially those that are light). There were a couple of steps at the beginning of the descent of the Thourn-La in which they would have been grateful because the snow was somewhat hard from stepping on it and they had some exposure, but with care they could be done well, but it was a hassle to have to transport them The whole long trek, so we renounce them, is a very personal choice. Leggings take up and weigh much less and you can buy cheap ones in Pokhara, Manang or Kathmandu and they also work in case of heavy rain or snow.
The difficulty of the route is set by the height more than the orientation or the technical complexity itself (although on the steps with hard snow you have to be a little careful if you do not wear crampons).
Route created manually shortly after returning from Nepal as the original was not recorded in full.
