Tour of section 13.1 of the Appalachian Trail , as it passes through the state of Pennsylvania (United States), from south to north. From mile AT 1,089.8 (Milesburn Cabin PATC) to mile AT 1,102.1 (Ironmaster´s Mansion, Pine Grove Furnace State Park), measured from Springer, Georgia.
The entire route of the stage, carried out on a very rainy day, runs through the immense Michaux State Forest, in South Mountain, in the first miles, along the crest of the Big Pine Flat Ridge, and in the second half of the stage, in a continuous but gentle descent to the Pine Grove Furnace State Park, which houses the magnificent Ironmaster´s Mansion, which is owned and managed by the Central Pennsylvania Conservancy, which hosts from April 1 to October 31 to all hikers who travel the AT, and other visitors, offering accommodation, breakfast, laundry, internet, and excellent facilities and hospitality, at a reasonable cost.
In the park itself, in addition to an Appalachian Trail museum, there is also a small shop in which it is possible to purchase supplies, but with limited hours and schedules, so it is convenient to inform yourself about their availability.
Note that in the course of the stage, the Appalachian Trail passes through the middle point of the trail, between Mt. Springer (Georgia) and Mt. Katahdin (Maine), with 1,090.50 miles in each direction. At that intermediate point, an indicator panel has been installed, and there is a mailbox.
This is the itinerary that follows the route of this day, seen in three dimensions .
Finally, some GPS error breaks have been observed in the altitude graph of this itinerary. This is the real profile of the stage:
