Tour of sections 5.1, 4 and 3 of the Appalachian Trail ( Appalachian Trail ), passing through the state of Maryland (United States), from south to north, always along the crest of South Mountain, from mile AT 1038.80 to 1.054.50, measured from Springer, Georgia.
The stage begins through several historical sites of the American civil war, beginning with the Reno Monument, in Fox Gap, which commemorates the place where unionist general Jesse Lee Reno and confederate Samuel Garland Jr. died in the battle of South Mountain .
A short distance away, we find the Washington Monument State Park, with a service area, and after a short but steep climb, we reach the Washington Monument, built in 1827 in honor of George Washington, in the form of a circular tower with a viewpoint in the part upper, which is accessed by an internal staircase. The place also offers beautiful views.
The trail continues, crossing a portion of Greenbrier State Park, shortly after reaching the small hill of Pine Knob.

Efectivamente, el sendero de los Apalaches es un recorrido espectacular y único. Muy recomendable para cualquier senderista, y tiene una infraestructura de apoyo y un mantenimiento envidiables.
Espero poder concluirlo en todo su trazado, de 3.500 km., y poder colgar en wikiloc todas las etapas.
