Note géographique et géologique
Brantôme est traversée par la Dronne et la Côle. Son centre-ville est installé sur une île d'environ 300 mètres de diamètre formée par la Dronne, d'où son surnom de Venise du Périgord.
Note historique
L'abbaye bénédictine de Brantôme fut fondée sous Charlemagne, détruite par les Normands en 849, reconstruite en 1075. Elle logea Pierre de Bourdeilles devenu abbé de Brantôme après une vie bien peu catholique.

The Dronne and the Côle rivers cross Brantôme. The city center is located on an island of about 300 meters in diameter formed by the Dronne, hence its nickname of Venice of Périgord.
Historical notes
The Benedictine abbey of Brantôme was founded under Charlemagne, destroyed by the Normans in 849, rebuilt in 1075. It housed Pierre de Bourdeilles, who became abbot of Brantôme after a very little Catholic life.
