Tour of the Appalachian Trail ( Appalachian Trail ), passing through the state of Virginia (United States), in a south-north direction. From the Lamberts Meadow Shelter, to the intersection of the trail with US-11, near the town of Troutville.
The stage runs along the ridge of the Tinker Mountain, with a relief in gradual descent towards the Tinker Creek valley, with some steep slopes along the way.
The views are truly magnificent, both to the north and east (Valley of Virginia), to the south and west (Carvins Cove Natural Reserve / Brushy Mountain, and the Carvin Cove Reservoir, present along almost the entire route ). It is also visible in the distance, the silhouette of the McAfee Knob, which allows us to appreciate the long distance traveled.
One of the highlights of the stage is the place known as Hay Rock, which offers interesting rock formations, including a large rock bent over the path, forming a kind of huge natural shelter. From this point you can also enjoy a magnificent panoramic view to the south and east (Carvins Cove Reservoir and Valley of Virginia).
Following the same ridge of the mountain, three kilometers after Hay Rock, and before starting the descent towards the valley, we have the opportunity to contemplate again a magnificent panoramic view towards the east, with the Carvins Cove Reservoir in the foreground, in the place known as Tinger Ridge.
From that point, and after crossing a devastated spot close to a high-voltage power line, the trail gradually descends the Tinker Mountain, to reach the Tinker Creek, and from there crosses the valley through places of no interest, through a kind of green corridor that tries to camouflage, without success, the urban proximity and the noise of the cars that circulate at great speed through the important communication channels of the area (US-220 route, I-81 and US-11 route) ).
A good place, no doubt, for those walkers who need it, can replace provisions, charge batteries and resume contact with the "civilization".
The stage concludes in the parking lot of the AT located at the intersection of the path with the US-11 route.
