Note géographique et géologique
Les nauves (marécages) et les étangs sont caractéristiques de cette région entre Périgord Central et bassin aquitain. Le Grand étang de La Jemaye est l’un des joyaux de la forêt ancestrale de la Double. Il se compose d’un vaste massif forestier et de six étangs connectés.
Note historique
Le Grand Etang a été créé en 1600 en barrant le ruisseau de Jemayotte. A proximité, des moines trappistes fondent en 1868 le monastère de la Trappe à Echourgnac.
A visiter: Ferme du Parcot

Flore: fougère aigle, ajonc d'Europe, pin maritime, châtaignier, marguerite commune, pissenlit, ronce commune, prunellier, genêt d'Europe, chêne tauzin, chêne sessile
Faune: milan noir, vache, corneille noire, mésange charbonnière, grand loche

The nauves (swamps) and ponds are characteristic of this region between Central Périgord and the Aquitaine basin. The Grand Etang de La Jemaye is one of the jewels of the ancestral forest of La Double. It consists of a vast forest and six connected ponds.
Historical notes
The Grand Etang was created in 1600 by damming the Jemayotte stream. Nearby, Trappist monks founded the La Trappe monastery in Echourgnac in 1868.
