Tour of the Appalachian Trail ( Appalachian Trail ), passing through the state of Virginia (United States), from south to north, from the Wapiti Shelter, to the intersection of the trail with route VA-663, in the place known as Sugar Run Gap.
The stage corresponds to the layout of the second part of section 34, according to the official distribution of stages of the Appalachian Trail, in the state of Virginia, and has as its highlight the route, the summit of Sugar Run Mountain (3,800 feet ), with some rock areas from which you can see a magnificent panoramic view.
The climb to this top of Sugar Run Mountain is long and heavy, especially on a very hot day like the one we had. They are three and a half kilometers of quite steep slope, although the path is comfortable and not very stony.
However, as a whole, the stage is easy given that it is a short journey and much of it is quite flat, with a short descent to the Sugar Run Gap.
Less than a kilometer from the end of the route, following the forest path that leads to Pearisburg (route VA-663), there is a lodge for walkers: the Woodshole Hostel, which offers accommodation, showers, laundry, provisions, shuttles and other services .
