Hills were full of late summer peace – lots of red deer and marmots about. Nights were chilly in the tent, but days full of September sunshine. Huge number of swimming spots en route. Refuge D'Ayous and Refuge d'Arrémoulit are in incredible locations and worth a stop for a beer if not for the night. I was a bit daunted by the Orteig pass as it's narrow and exposed, but there's a cable along the rock which means it shouldn't cause many problems for people with a reasonable head for heights in good weather.
Finished in Torla and took two buses from there to Barcelona.
