Tour of the Appalachian Trail ( Appalachian Trail ), as it passes through the state of Georgia (United States), from south to north.
The walk corresponds to the layout of sections 14 and the second part of section 13, of the AT in Georgia and North Carolina, according to the official distribution of stages of the trail, and begins in Neel Gap (where the Walasi-Yi Center), and ends in the Low Gap Shelter, where we spend the night.
The day is dry, but cloudy and very cold. There is little snow on the trail, accumulated mainly in the less sunny areas of the slopes.
At the beginning of the route, the path crosses the set of services of the Walasi-Yi Center and Mountain Crossings, in Neel Gap, through a passage between the facilities, located right in front of a large tree with dozens of hiking boots hanging from its branches. .

Leaving Neel Gap behind, we quickly ascend to the small peak of Levelland Mountain (3,942 ft), from which one can enjoy a good panoramic view to the south. Also the tops of Wolf Laurel Top (3,766 feet), Green Cliff Top (3,853 feet), and Cowrock Mountain (3,842 feet), offer magnificent views.
Starting at the top of Cowrock Mountain, the trail descends rapidly for almost a mile to the Tesnatee Gap Pass, where it merges with Route 348, before beginning a new ascent to an elevation above 3,500 feet. which with successive and continuous small ascents and descents will lead us to Poor Mountain (3,620 feet), and from there, in a gradual descent, to Wide Gap.
In the last three kilometers of the route, the AT gently ascends the hill of Sheep Rock Top (3,600) and after its subsequent descent, it reaches the Low Gap Shelter, located on the banks of two small mountain streams. This shelter has space for seven occupants, a fire ring, a picnic table, steel cables to hang food and protect it from bears, a latrine, and an easy water supply.
