Route along the Appalachian Trail ( Appalachian Trail ), passing through the state of Tennessee (United States), in a south-north direction, in the section corresponding to the first part of section 1, in accordance with the Official distribution of stages of this trail, from the Abigdon Gap Shelter, to the town of Damascus, located in the state of Virginia.
The entire stage runs along the ridge of Holston Mountain, west of the fertile Shady Valley, in continuous and gradual descent to Damascus, without great viewpoints, or panoramic views, although from time to time, behind the trees, the valleys glimpse to the east, and the mountainous area to the north and west of Holston Mountain.
Three and a half miles before the end of the route, the trail crosses the dividing line between the states of Tennessee and Virginia, leaving behind the immense territory occupied by the Cherokee National Forest, and entering the Mt. Rogers National Recreation Area.
The small town of Damascus (Virginia) welcomes all walkers with gratitude and sympathy. A modest public park dedicated to the Appalachian Trail, welcomes walkers, and along the Laurel Street and other adjacent streets you can find some small establishments of supplies of clothes, footwear and tools for outdoor activities, as well as several hostels that offer accommodation and shower for modest prices.

Bonita ruta y preciosas fotos.
