This is the stage of the Wicklow Way which takes the route through the southern highlands towards the southwest hills of Wicklow. It ends with western views to the flattest land of Carlow County.
It starts with an ascending trek through the pleasantly wooded slopes of Slieve Maan, reached the Military Road after a climb of 400m in a distance of about 6 kms. The path then circles the upper slopes of Carrickashane (508m), before descending into the Ow River valley on Iron Bridge.
Leaving Iron Bridge, a more gradual climb then takes the trail through Ballyteigue Bridge before cutting south-west between the Ballygobban (447m) and Sheilstown Hill (536m) mountains.
This marks the end of the mountain stages. Continuing down a quiet road south to the picturesque little Georgian village you will need to make a detour from the 1km trail to the overnight stay at Kyle Farmhouse B & B where Margaret welcomed us with great friendliness and clear coffee and beers!
