Itinerary description
366) Westcliff Lookout - 18th May 2021
Return Distance 4.8km, Max Elevation 1,112m, Climb 27m, Time 1.25hr, Level - Easy - Pops
Co-ordinates: -26.873220, 151.579980
My Blog:
Not having been into Bunya Mountains, I did not appreciate how beautiful and extensive this region was. I only had a day in here, so tried to cover as many walks as possible. But the reality is you need to stay in Dandabah Village and explore the area more fully.
The morning sun on the shiny Bunya Tree pinnacles is quite a spectacle.
Short Description:
This track follows part of the cliff-line on the mountain's western side with Westcliff lookout providing clear views over the open plains of the Darling Downs. Soon after leaving the Paradise car park, the track passes through Little Pocket, one of the small natural clearings or 'balds' scattered over the Bunya Mountains.
Getting There:
Bunya Mountain Road is the thoroughfare to Bunya Mountains. It can be reached from Kingaroy south on the Bunya Highway for 32km and turning left (signposted). From Dalby north, you need your GPS to get to the base of the drive. This can be a very steep and twisty mountain road, so please take care.
Start at the Paradise car park a little north of Dandebah on Bunya Mountains Road.

Route/Trail Notes:
This pathway from the car park begins by travelling through a tangle of rainforest and then entering into eucalypt forest as you get closer to the ridge line. Along the way is Westcliff Lookout with views over the Darling Downs. You can return via the same track or continue to Westcott and complete the loop by returning down the roadway.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
Camping options are available at various points along Bunya Mountain Road, including Westcott. Fees Apply.
