Co-ordinates: -25.334800, 151.098040
My Blog:
This walk defeated me the first time, when I took the left fork to nowhere! Back the next morning and take the right fork down though to the lake and around to the hide and back. You know you are getting closer to the lake as the crescendo of bird calls gets louder and louder.
Short Description:
This track along the lake's shore joins the two camping areas and down to the Hide. It passes the remains of a dingo fence built in the 1860s for St Ruth Station and promises you an abundance of bird and waterbird life.
Getting There:
From Dalby, take the Moonie Highway towards St George and after 20km, turn left onto Broadwater Road (well signposted) to Broadwater Lake. Follow this road for 8.5km and turn in left to Wilga Bush Camping Area and follow the track to the bottom of the campground where there is a small parking and a signed start to the walk.
Maps:

Route/Trail Notes:
Follow the pathway from the parking area for 20m and take the right fork (ignore the white arrows on the trees to turn left) and follow the green posts, which include a tree identification plaque on the top, along the Red Gum Track to the 'overflow', which you skirt to the bottom of the camping area. From here, you walk along the lakeshore all the way to the Hide and the lake's neck, before returning by the same route.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
This is a 'twitchers' paradise, with the variety of bird life changing with the seasons.
Camping fees apply.
