My Blog:
Without a Navman, I would never have found this place and a friendly Staffie dog greeted me at the car park and wants to come with you for a walk. This was certainly a new perspective of Toowoomba from the west.
Short Description:
A great walk, with some steep rough rock climbs to the southern and northern summits of Mt Peel with 360° of the Toowoomba landscape from Drayton it its west.
Getting There:
The walk starts at a small parking area at the end of Westminster Street, Drayton. Drayton is a suburb on the south west side of Toowoomba. It is a little tricky getting off Anzac Avenue at the right place, but most GPS and/or phone Map apps will get you there.
Maps:
Mt Peel Bushland Park
Route/Trail Notes:
Head out along the main track, keeping to the left for 900m and take a left and right signed track that gives you a scramble to the summit of the Southern Summit. Go down the far side track and head right to the junction to the left that takes you to the Northern Summit. Don't take the first access to the summit, but go around to the west and up another scramble to the top. Again go down the far side track that lead you through '4 way intersection' (just where two tracks cross and not on any map) back to the start past the water tower.
The tracks have some improved signage (2021), but it is still easy to get confused, so would suggest you print off a map or take a photo of the information board at the start.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
Some of the tracks are stared pathways with mountain bikes and horse riders. There are about five different trails in the reserve. This means you can do a few short walks or map out your own route and do a longer walk.
