Itinerary description
336) Discovery Walk - 1st March 2021 - NEW
Return Distance 400m, Max Elevation 709m, Climb 10m, Time 0.5hr, Level - Easy - Pops
Co-ordinates: -34.973880, 138.709160
My Blog:
Within 24 hours of arriving in South Australia and we are at the top of the Mount Lofty enjoying the great views of Adelaide laid out below us. Yep, and we got to see a Bandicoot!
Short Description:
This short walk, just below the summit of Mount Lofty and Flinders Column, provides fantastic views of Adelaide below and an idea of the habitat here claimed by the local Bandicoots.
Getting There:
Head out of Adelaide on the S.E. Freeway towards Murray Bridge and once through the tunnel, take the Crafers exit to Mt Lofty/Botanic Garden. Turn left onto Summit Road and at the top of the hill is a turning right to Mt Lofty lookout and car park.
Maps:

Route/Trail Notes:
To the right of the cafe, head down the path where there is information on the walks in the area. Take a sharp left signposted 'Discovery Walk' and follow this around the summit, which will bring you back to the top viewing area.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
There are numerous walking and mountain bike trails, starting from the top, including Chambers Hill (6km loop) and Waterfall Gully (7.5km return). I believe that there is even one that takes you back into Adelaide.
