My Blog:
Covered both the Scrubby Creek Circuit and the lookout in one. Made an attempt to carry on beyond the lookout hoping it might get to the top of Mount Mudlo, but the track has not been maintained and became denser and denser with foliage that inhibited progress.
Short Description:
This great little walk is a great heart pounder as you ascend to the lookout. There's plenty of steps. One thing to watch out for is the giant spider webs with accompanying giant spiders that stretch across the track. Great views from the top.
Getting there:
North of Gympie on the Bruce Highway, take the Wide Bay Highway down to Kilkivan. As you enter town turn right into James Street and right again onto Bridge Street that becomes Mudlo Road. Follow Mudlo Road to the National Park and you will find the small Scrubby Creek car park on your right.
Maps:
Mudlo National Park
Route/Trail notes:
Head north across the creek road bridge to pick up the stepped pathway to your right, which is part of the Scrubby Creek Circuit walk. After 300m a track to your left (signposted) takes you up to the lookout.
Return by the same route, or carry on round the creek circuit back to the car park.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
Further along Mudlo Road is a small picnic area with a toilet block. On your way out, stop and take a look at the solitary tomb stone on the hillside next to the side of the road.
