My Blog:
We came here to walk to Pearson Lookout and found this delightful walk along, across and around Scrubby Creek.
Short Description:
Meandering along Scrubby Creek this track lets you explore the hoop pine vine forest and takes you past giant figs. Listen out for the “whip crack” call from the male eastern whip bird and the female’s “choo choo” response.
Getting there:
North of Gympie on the Bruce Highway, take the Wide Bay Highway down to Kilkivan. As you enter town turn right into James Street and right again onto Bridge Street that becomes Mudlo Road. Follow Mudlo Road to the National Park and you will find the small Scrubby Creek car park on your right .
Maps:
Mudlo National Park
Route/Trail notes:
Take the signposted track from the car park, that takes you anti-clockwise, down and across the creek and up through the vine forest, before returning from the north back across the creek.
Three quarters around and to your right, is the option to take the steep climb up to Pearson Lookout.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
If you are taking your children, visit the fairy grotto under the fig tree and add to the collection by leaving a 'treasure'.
Further along Mudlo Road is a small picnic area with a toilet block. On your way out, stop and take a look at the solitary tomb stone on the hillside next to the side of the road.
