My Blog:
Time to get off the concrete, get my feet wet and sand between my toes, as I pushed through to Dicky Beach. Maybe one day we won't have to skirt around the houses and be able to continue along the back of the dunes?
Short Description:
Time to get your feet wet on this one, as you cross Swamp Creek and head up the sand to Dicky Beach and on along the coastal wetlands boardwalks to beautiful Currimundi Lake.
Getting There:
Head to Moffat Beach and use the car park on Bryce Street or Queen of Colonies Parade. Weekends and holiday periods are busy here, so you may have to park up the hill on Mcilwraith Street.
Maps:
None found.
Route/Trail Notes:
The pathway starts at the seaward end of Bryce Street car park. From here, head north and down onto the beach at the boat ramp. Cross the sand and paddle across the creek, which even after heavy rain and on a high tide, is only knee deep. Head along the beach and around the rocky headland, till you reach Beach Access 267, when you exit and rejoin the pathway at Dicky Beach.
The above section deviates from the SCCP, but is more fun! If you are unwilling to paddle the creek, continue on the pathway to Elizabeth Street, across the bridge and follow Elizabeth Street to Dicky Beach.
Continue along the pathway, over the wooden bridge and around the Surf Club to Ngungun Street, where you have to skirt a few houses before rejoining the pathway proper in Ann Street. You pass over a number of wooden bridges, Coondibah Creek and through the wetland boardwalks with their interpretive sign, before coming out onto Watson Street, which you follow down to Currimundi Lake.
Return by the same route.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
As with all the sections of SCCP, you can do them in either direction, role one or more together, or get someone to drop you off and pick you up further along the track.
There are numerous points along the way for a swim, grab a coffee or a bite to eat. Take your dog for a swim, but check the beach entry points for any restrictions.
