Itinerary description
286) Caloundra to Moffat Beach (SCCP 3) - 12th December 2019
Return Distance 8.5km, Max Elevation 62m, Climb 18m, Time 2hr, Level - Easy - Pops
Co-ordinates: -26.807320, 153.132490
My Blog:
On ANZAC Day 2016, we did our own Walking Wounded charity walk of 42.2km from Pelican Waters to Cotton Tree along the then Sunshine Coast Coastal Pathway (SCCP). It took us twelve hours (including stops for coffee and lunch) and we had blisters on blisters.
So now (2019/20), is an opportunity to break the walk down into smaller easier achievable sections that everyone can enjoy, including walking sections along the beaches and will likely extent beyond Cotton Tree and include new pathways that have been created in the last three years.
This section from Caloundra's Bulcock Beach to Moffat Beach (likely to be called Section 3) I have done a number of time, but today, I chartered it correctly and enjoyed taking in the splendid ocean views across to Bribie and Moreton Islands.
Short Description:
Enjoy a challenging part of the Sunshine Coast Coastal Pathway (SCCP) as it winds above cliffs and round Caloundra Head, with fantastic views of the Glass House Mountains, Bribie and Moreton Islands to the south and to the north the beach all the way to Point Cartwright, with Mount Coolum in the distance.
Getting There:
Head to Caloundra Esplanade and use the Happy Valley car park at the northern end of Bulcock Beach.
Maps:
None found.
Route/Trail Notes:
Start from the car park at Bulcock Beach, head north towards Kings Beach, from here, the pathway goes over Headland Walkway with its commemorative War Memorial Plaques. Continue along Des Dwyer Walkway past a likely deserted Shelley Beach onto O'Donnell Walkway and finally down to Moffat Beach.
Return by the same route.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
The grassed area at Bulcock Beach is a popular evening spot to have a glass in your hand and enjoy the sunset over the Glass House Mountains in the distance. There are numerous points along the way for a swim or to grab a coffee. Old Surf Shacks nestle alongside multimillion style apartments, which add to the fun, as osprey sour overhead and in season whales play offshore.
Alternatively, you can park at Moffat Beach and take the walkway south to Caloundra.
