My Blog:
This was a enjoyable extended stroll around the Reserve, which in June was very pleasant, but in the warmer months would be pretty arduous.
Short Description:
This walk provides visitors with a longer opportunity to experience the wider Reserve. These granite boulders, many of which are precariously balanced on top of one another are scattered across the wide shallow valley that makes up the Reserve.
Getting there:
Travel north 393km on the Stuart Highway from Alice Springs, or 100km south from Tennant Creek and turn in to the signposted day use car park (not the campsite area).
Maps:
Devils Marbles Conservation Reserve
Route/Trail notes
The signposted walk start from the northern side of the car park and meanders through the boulder strewn valley. After 1.3km, you cross the northern access road and heads south to the campsite area, which you cross and at the southern end, to your left, is the signposted access track for the Yakkula Loop. Complete the loop and then from across the campsite area take the Mayijangu loop back to the day use area.
Permits/Costs
None.
Other References/Comments:
The town of Wauchope is just 9km south of the Reserve, where overnight accommodation is available, or you can camp onsite.
There are several walk to enjoy, including Nyanjiki Lookout providing panoramic views of the Reserve. The Karlu Karlu walk, which is an easy short 20 minute return walk, commencing from the day use area car park.
