Itinerary description
Overnight hike in Virgin Falls State Natural Area, Tennessee
Can be done as a long day-hike, but we enjoyed this as an easy overnight.
Friday after work, we parked at the Virgin Falls Trailhead & Ranger Hut, at 2080 Scotts Gulf Road in Sparta, TN.
Followed the Upland Trail an easy ~2.5 miles to the Martha's Pretty Point camp areas, and stayed overnight.
The next morning, we enjoyed the view point, and hiked ~4 miles to Sheep Cave and Virgin Falls. Both were impressive. There is also camping available by Virgin Falls.
Return from the falls back to the parking area was another ~4 miles, staying on the Virgin Falls trail (rather than branching back to Martha's Pretty Point via the Upland Trail we had come in on). There were some good climbs on the way out.
