Itinerary description
A popular trail leaving Custer State Park into Black Hills National Forest, towards the highest point of the state of South Dakota, Black Elk Peak. I started the hike relatively late in the day (around 11am), thus decided to take the loop towards Black Elk Peak in the clockwise direction so as to enjoy the views with the best lighting conditions. In addition to the typical loop, I added a spur towards Little Devil’s Tower, which required minimal scrambling. In the end, I added a short loop trail around Sylvan Lake.
