Review of the route in Adventoorer: Ride along the bank of the Yukon River to Whitehorse .

.

We just got to Canada, and I don't even know what time it is. The time difference has left me to the drag, and all I want is to get into bed. But you have to hold out as long as possible, sleep well tonight, and pray that tomorrow I'll be a little more focused.

To give us time to acclimatize, today we are taken for a walk around Whitehorse, the capital of the Yukon.

A strange city. Made to move by car, as I suppose most cities in the US and Canada. Low buildings, widely separated. Wide avenues, and everything is far away. Fortunately we are not too far from what seems to be the center, but no one takes a fifteen or twenty minute walk from us.

They take us by car to a point that is a little further up the Yukon River, and they leave us in the Miles Canyon area, in a narrowing of the river. Before we start walking, they give us a talk about bears. How to react if one suddenly appears, and how to use the anti-bear sprays that we will take during the trip.

Fortunately or unfortunately, there was no need to use them at any time, but it is better to be prepared, just in case. Of course, it's one thing to be told what to do, and another to be able to react correctly if you see yourself in front of a Grizzly. I'll never know what I would have done, though I can imagine...

Finally, once satisfactorily prepared to face wild animals of enormous size, we cross the bridge to the other side of the river, and we cross the cut from the top.

This area by the river is nice. It is a pretty place, and more or less cool. But then there's a long stretch of track/road, and that's already heavier. The heat presses, and the dream attacks.

A good while later, we arrived at a Salmon Interpretation Center, or something like that. There's a dam here, which supplies electricity to Whitehorse, and they've set up this center to explain the whole spawning thing and so on. As the dam is a rather annoying obstacle, they have built a kind of pipe through which the salmon can go up the river. The site is interesting.

The rest of the route we do for a more pleasant walk than the road. It must be common for the locals to walk through this area. It's close and it's pretty. There are many benches everywhere, all of them with plaques remembering someone who has passed away. Some dedicated to a dog. I imagine that whoever places the plate will have somehow financed the bank where they have placed it.

After crossing the Robert Campbell Bridge, we return to what seems to me to be the center of the city, if you can talk about something like that. We continue along the banks of the river, which we skirt until we reach the hotel area, where we stop to eat.

Today there is no energy for anything else. Tonight you have to sleep well, otherwise tomorrow will be even harder.
