Itinerary description

From Ellery Creek east branch, I made my way east to Weeping Waterfall, which had a slow seep and a number of very small pools of usable water.

I then looked for a good way up to the tops. The way I chose turned out to be very steep and loose, but it came out close to Dark Cleft, a striking gap in the range where some parts are in deep shade all day during winter.

There was a really smooth descent into Bent Gorge (just near the bend), where there was a pool of remnant rainwater. I don't think there's a spring here, because I found it dry on a previous visit, although the vegetation at the bend always seems quite verdant. There was plenty of camping available just downstream from the outflow.

I continued on past the entrance to Trident Gorge, where I collected good water from the bathtub-sized pool (which in some years can be fouled with a thick layer of bird droppings). I camped at un unnamed stream further east which contained a small grove of callitris pines.
