Itinerary description
We climbed to the corner formed by the Red Walls and the North-South Range. The pass where we climbed through the first foothills was challenging, but from above we could see what looked like a much better place to breach the foothills. The rest of the scramble was steep but not too technical.
We made a side-trip to the top of Corner Peak (1307m) for the all-around views, then made our way to the North-South Range and down to the plains of the mini-Pound. We followed the creek system downstream to Sandy Camp.
In May 2021 this campsite had good water, but now there was only a bathtub full of dubious water mixed with mud and leeches. After setting up camp, I headed downstream to a set of twin rockpools where I collected some excellent water.
