Itinerary description
We climbed Mt Sonder by means of its east spur, which is steep in parts but the scrambling is not difficult. Soon after we arrived at the logbook at the top (the end of the Larapinta Trail) a couple emerged from the same route. We were as surprised to see them as they were to see us, as it didn't look like many people climb the east spur.
We didn't visit the true summit, but made our way down the Larapinta Trail to the 2km marker where we continued down the ridge that curves around to the north end of Redbank Gorge. Here there is water and a few tent sites (plenty more are available a little way upstream). It's an attractive spot.
