Kilimanjaro, Northern Circuit. Day 4: Moir Hut - Pofu
Wednesday, October 9, 2019
Departure / Arrival: Moir Hut (4,217 m) / Pufo camp (4,012 m)
Duration: 4:30 hours (Departure 08:05 - Arrival 12:35)
Distances and cumulative slope: 10 km, + 400 m / - 600 m
Difficulty: 1/5
Complete crossing: 2019.10.06-13 - Kilimanjaro, Northern Circuit (8 days)
Fourth day of issue. With the arrival at Moir Hut, we start the North Circuit through which, overnight at the Buffalo / Pofu and Third Cave camps, we will go back to Mount Kilimanjaro in three days.
The Moir Hut camp occupies the surface of a pseudo plateau of altitude, protected to the north from the prevailing winds of Kenya and bounded to the east by the waters that descend from the great snows located at the base of the summit.
When the sky was covered, the night was not as icy as the previous one in Shira II, although a good layer of frost could still be observed this morning on the shops. A long and restful night, because you could not do many things yesterday in a rain-hit camp, at more than 4,000 meters of altitude! Around 8:30 p.m., we were all in bed.
At 6:30 in the morning, the daily ritual: “ Jambo! Good Morning! Did you sleep well? Yes yes, asante sana , thank you very much! Akuna kills! You're welcome, healthy character!
A hot tea, a water to wash and have breakfast!
At 8 o'clock in the morning the backpacks are closed. We get going. We cross the small river that closes the camp in the east and that the night has frozen. The earth creaks in our path but it will not take long to warm up, as soon as the sun reaches the last plots still in the shade. We resume yesterday's route to the east, mountain on the right, to the Pofu camp (4,010 m). The landscape is the same for a good part of the tour. Nice flowers, some Senecio Kilimanjari , endemic to the area. Halfway the mobile operator Safaricom welcomes us to Kenya! At some point along the way, we will also connect to a data network, causing the messages stored in the previous days to leave the phone ...
