Itinerary description
Heading across the plain from Canyon of Defiance, you pass through an area known to bushwalkers as The Mini-Pound. It's probably faster to stick to the creeks in this area, even though the direct route across the ridges is shorter.
Although I was only on the North-South Ridge for a short distance, the going is quite arduous. There are a few very minimal tent scrapes up here.
I turned the corner and headed west along the ridgeline of Red Wall, then dropped down when I was nearing Letterbox Gorge. I think the ridge I took is easier than any of the other options - its main hassle was prickly bushes.
I went through Letterbox Gorge, which is most attractive at dawn and dusk. I have previously been through it in the middle of the day, when it is not nearly so appealing. Tent sites are limited on both sides of the gorge.
