Itinerary description

Head east from Canyon of Defiance over relatively easy ground to the "Low Point" of the Chewings Range, where a crossing may be easily made by ascending a steep gully. Stick to the creekbed or to its left (east) for the easiest travel. You can descend pretty much anywhere; in this case I traversed to the west before descending and dropped into the creekbed. In a wet season the creekbed may have compulsory swims and it's easier to drop down close to where you reach the ridge line.

From Giles Yard Spring I went downstream past the camping area then turned off below a line of foothills, where a line of east-west creeks makes for easy going. This section may not have the most dramatic scenery but it is definitely the fastest route between Giles Yard Spring and Giles Spring.

There's usually good water at Canyon of Defiance, Giles Yard Spring and Giles Spring.
