Itinerary description
Nice hike to the top of the Gross Muttenhorn with amazing views. I would classify its difficulty as moderate, but the last section of the glacier (crampons are a must) was a bit steep, not a big problem earlier in the season with more snow on it, but it was icy in August, and that required extra attention in order to carve some steps on the ice. In addition, when I got out of the ice and onto the rocks, the slope was quite unstable and a big block slid downhill right next to me without any consequences, but again, that requires special attention too. The rest of the trail is quite evident, still some steep slopes where eventually you need to use your hands (though no actual climb), and if you skip the glacier it’s perfectly ok for a trained hiker.
