According to some guides it is the most beautiful trekking in New Zealand, we can not confirm it because it is the first one we do in these lands and it could not be completed because there was volcanic activity. AND HAD THE TRUTH! If not see the photo of the fumaroles and occasionally an internal explosion was heard.
Route through volcanic terrain, surprising the amount of water that there was. We went under the volcano that was used in the Lord of the Rings movie that Frodo had to climb to finish the trilogy.
The views to the Esmeralda and Azul lakes, impressive.
We had to hire a bus to be able to enter the end of the road, because it is forbidden to the rest of the drivers and it is 5 km (between round trip). We hired him from the village of Turangi. But it is worth approaching almost to the deviation of the road because there is a hotel nearby where buses leave and it will be quite cheaper. The problem with the bus is that they leave you around 7 in the morning and pick you up at 3:00 p.m., the time is a little short if you want to also ascend to the volcano of Frodo, the Ngar ..... (3 h from the crossing) We opted to make a peak in the Tongariro. Very cool views and you get to see the great lake of Tapu. And we only spend 1/2 hour. We recommend the shelter services, they have water to wash your hands and less people.

Ja era hora.......
Hola.
Eva & David.
