Note géographique et géologique
Périgueux est la préfecture de la Dordogne et la capitale de la région naturelle nommée Périgord Central. Elle repose sur le calcaire du Bassin Aquitain et sa surface correspond au Crétacé Supérieur (100-66 Ma)
Note historique
L'histoire de la cathédrale Saint Front remonte au VIème siècle avec la construction d'une première église détruite en 845 par les invasions normandes. C'est une abbaye qui se bâtit alors en 976 sous l'impulsion de l’évêque Frotaire. Après avoir été pillée par les huguenots au XVIème siècle, elle devient cathédrale en 1669.

Historical notes
The history of Saint Front Cathedral dates back to the 6th century with the construction of a first church destroyed in 845 by the Norman invasions. An abbey is then built in 976 under the leadership of Bishop Frotaire. After being plundered by the Huguenots in the 16th century, it became a cathedral in 1669.
