Itinerary description
I decided to stop the car on this quiet country road about 200 KMS south west of Hail en route west. I parked the saloon car about 3 KMs off road and headed across a plain towards hilly terrain and mountains beyond. Passing through a tiny village, the terrain heads slowly upwards past shepherd camps until the steeper hills/mountains are reached. The view on the south side of the escarpment is fantastic, miles of...nothingness...
I camped in a lovely quiet basin with a view south, before heading north up a scree and then scrambled down the other side in the direction of the car. The track is easy to follow and involves nothing more than a bit of hands on scrambling.
I guess the shepherds wouldn't take kindly to it, but the huge rubber water containers are like massive water beds (as well as a source to fill up a litre or 2).
