My Blog:
Staying at 1770 Camp Ground for a few days, made this an obvious choice for my first walk here. A stroll up the sand to the Memorial and then out to the lookouts was a great way to spend an early morning. Extended my walk by taking a goat track on the eastern side from the start of Round Hill, which lead back to the over spill car park and the Anchor memorial to Countess Russell
Short Description:
This walk combines both the Creek and Headland Tracks and provides a great little stroll from Captain Cook's Landing Memorial, along the foreshore via the 1770 Butterfly Walk to Round Hill's Bustard Bay and Wave Lookout's with splendid views in all directions.
Getting there:
Take Round Hill Road to Agnes Water and turn left into Captain Cook Drive. Follow this through the Town of 1770 and up the hill to Captain Cook's Landing Memorial car park signposted on the left.
Maps:
The Agnes Water & Town of 1770 Visitor Map is available from the Visitor Centre on Springs Road, Agnes Water.
Route/Trail notes:
From the Memorial, head along the 1770 Butterfly Walk (signposted Round Hill Creek Track), so named due to the abundance of Blue Tiger butterflies that here in autumn and winter. The track follows the foreshore and leads to the base of Round Hill, where you walk to the left out to Bustard Bay Lookout. On your way back from this lookout, take the left fork down to Wave Lookout and then return to the Memorial by the same route.
Permits/Costs:
None.
Other References/Comments:
From the left side of Wave Lookout, you can see a faint track that takes you out to the famous fishing rock ledge The Catwalk and from Bustard Bay Lookout to the south, you will likely see the fishermen precariously standing on the ledge.
